Photograph taken in Banda Aceh, mid-December 2006, 2 years after the Tsunami of December 26th 2004 devastated much of the coastal region. Taken to illustrate reconstruction work and projects of CRS (Catholic Relief Services) of USA who sponsored the photo tour. Hafsah’s testimony: "I lost my husband to the Tsunami, while I was 3 months pregnant . He was taking someone to the hospital at the time, and I never saw him again. I ran for my life, with many other people, to the mountain nearby, while the wave pursued us. When we got to the mountain top, there were about another 1000 people sheltering up there. We had no food, and only coconuts to drink, and stayed up there 4 days. I lost 8 members of my family. We have been in our new house a few months, and survive by doing laundry." -of-USA-who-sponsored-the-photo-tour.-Hafsahs-testimony:-I-lost-my-husband-to-the-Tsunami,-while-I-was-3-months-pregnant-.-He-was-taking-someone-to-the-hospital-at-the-time,-and-I-never-saw-him-again.-I-ran-for-my-life,-with-many-other-people,-to-the-mountain-nearby,-while-the-wave-pursued-us.-When-we-got-to-the-mountain-top,-there-were-about-another-1000-people-sheltering-up-there.-We-had-no-food,-and-only-coconuts-to-drink,-and-stayed-up-there-4-days.-I-lost-8-members-of-my-family.-We-have-been-in-our-new-house-a-few-months,-and-survive-by-doing-laundry.-|15531.jpg)

I ran off with my wife, two children and their grandmother. We made it to higher ground and survived. But I lost my brother, aged 18, who lived with us. We stayed for the first month at the local government office, camped with many other villagers. Then we stayed a while in an army barracks. Conditions were very rough. Then we put together a wooden shack where we stayed for over a year.
