Disaster
INDONESIA Ronald Safinaldy is one of the beneficiaries of a new house, where he lives with his mother Rosmiati, his wife and children. Photograph taken in Meulaboh, Aceh Province mid-December 2006, 2 years after the Tsunami of December 26th 2004 devastated much of the coastal region. Taken to illustrate reconstruction work and projects of CRS (Catholic Relief Services) of USA who sponsored the photo tour. Ronald’s testimony: "We have been 5 months in our new home. Before that we lived in tents, since the Tsunami wiped away our old home. When the Tsunami struck I was working in the fish market . At first we felt the earthquake, then the water flooded in and we sheltered on the roof of the nearby mosque. CRS has served us well, providing water from 2 sources. We get our drinking water through pipes from a bore hole, and our water for bathing comes from shallow wells which they have dug for us."

I was in this terminal when the Tsunami struck. At first we felt the earthquake, but didnt know that water would follow, 15 minutes later. We just sat here after the earthquake, then started to hear people screaming and running towards us from the beach. We got up and ran too, and headed towards a hill nearby as we saw the water come flooding in. It has taken a long time to get over it, but now life is back to normal again, thank God!" stock photo
